My good friend JC recently asked… “is there a good summer time drink made with brandy?” The answer of course is yes. If I had to pick one classic brandy cocktail that goes well with summer it would be the Sidecar.

Legend has it that during WWI an Army captain use to pull up to Harry’s Bar in Paris riding in a motorcycle sidecar whereupon he would always order the same drink; brandy, Cointreau and lemon juice. Thus the Sidecar came into being.
To make this tasty drink, in a cocktail shaker add; 1 1/2 ounces Cognac, 1 ounce Cointreau, 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice and ice. Shake until chilled and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. If you want to be fancy you can rim the glass with superfine sugar. Garnish with a lemon or orange twist.
Note that some people use Triple Sec to replace Cointreau, but keep in mind that those people are heathens and should generally be avoided.
