As temperatures rise, big, heavy whiskey cocktails like the Old Fashion and Manhattan start to lose their appeal. Consequently I often find myself moving towards other spirits like rum, vodka and tequila. Which is sad, because I really do love whiskey. I was recently reminded however of an excellent whiskey drink that’s easy to make and refreshing to partake on a hot summer day… the Whiskey Smash.
In a shaker add 3-4 pieces of a chopped lemon slice. Add mint leaves (8-10). Muddle these together then add simple syrup (1/2 to 3/4 oz) and 2oz of either rye or bourbon. Add ice, shake, pour through a strainer. Enjoy!
