April Showers Bring May Flowers…

Spring into warmer weather with a refreshing Magnolia Cocktail!

Spring is kicking into full gear here in Georgia. Dogwoods are blooming, the Bradford Pear and Cherry trees have already bloomed and gone. Azaleas are showing off their bright colors, and soon the Queen of the South, the mighty magnolia, will make her debut.

In honor of this southern beauty, put down the bourbon, dust off your favorite bottle of gin and make yourself a refreshing Magnolia Cocktail. A kissing cousin of the famed Azalea Cocktail (the signature drink of the Masters golf tournament), the Magnolia is a slightly sweet, refreshingly light drink that is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

To make this instant classic, all you need is a good dry gin, fresh limes, simple syrup, and pineapple juice. If you’re not familiar with gin, look for a traditional ‘London style’ gin, think Bombay Sapphire, or Beefeaters. Basically you want a nice dry gin that has botanical flavors which aren’t too overwhelming. You really can’t go wrong here, just avoid gins that might be peppery or have tried to spice things up with exotic flavors. Keep it simple and classic. If you’re not crazy about gin, you can also make this cocktail with vodka. This drink is best served up in a coupe, or Nick and Nora style glassware.
